Holistic Land Management Workshop

Holistic Land Management Workshop
We are delighted to welcome John Duffy to Drumnaph from his inspiring organic farm, An Chaora Dhubh, nestled in the foothills of the Derryveagh Mountains in County Donegal.
A practical workshop introducing key concepts of regenerative land management using livestock. We will explore definitions of extensive, conservation and regenerative grazing practices. Classroom discussions will be reinforced with practical fieldwork exercises and observations at Drumnaph Nature Reserve.
Objectives: Context setting and defining a future resource base. Selecting appropriate management metrics.
Observation: Identifying and interpreting patterns within ecosystems. Observing the impact of climate, aspect and topography. Insights into key ecosystem processes: the roles of water cycle, mineral cycle and energy flow.
Management: Livestock as a tool for ecosystem regeneration. Disturbance: a successional trigger. Applying the tool of rest. Building feedback loops into our decision-making processes.
Fieldwork: Ecological monitoring, grazing planning and infrastructure.
The workshop will take place on 21st August at Drumnaph Nature Reserve and tea/coffee and a light lunch will be provided.
Cost: £60
